Import machinery and industrial supplies from China to the United States

Reviewed October 2, 2026.

To import machinery or industrial supplies from China into the United States: import duty is calculated on the FOB value. There is no general VAT on imports. Chinese goods also pay Section 301 tariffs, 25% for most machinery, plus a 12.5% forced-labor Section 301 duty in force since July 24, 2026. There is no free trade agreement with China, so the general duty rate for each tariff code applies. Key conformity requirement: UL / NFPA 79, OSHA. Machines must be configured for the local grid: 120/240 V, 60 Hz.

After that, those products pay the full Section 301 rate for their list, usually 25%. The 12.5% forced-labor Section 301 duty in force since July 24, 2026 applies on top and was never covered by the exclusions.
