What is ISPM 15 and why does my crate need it?

By I&R Group, Jiaxing. Reviewed October 3, 2026.

ISPM 15 is the international rule that wooden packaging be heat-treated or fumigated and stamped, to stop pests crossing borders. Customs can reject or hold a shipment whose crate is not treated and marked, so the factory must use compliant wood and show the stamp. Confirm ISPM 15 crating in the order; it is routine for export factories but worth stating.

  • Wooden crates must be treated and stamped to cross borders.
  • A non-compliant crate can be held or rejected at customs.
  • Ask for ISPM 15 crating in writing; it is standard for exporters.
